Let It Snow ~ Sketch Saturday # 14

Well, this is my first posting as a DT member for Sketch Saturdays! Can you tell how excited I am? Yesterday was a whirlwind day for me. I received the amazing news from Jo that I had made the DT, I wanted to complete a card to submit for this week's challenge, and dear friends arrived here in Montral from Toronto to visit with us! Talk about a full day!
This week's sketch is fabulous. I thought right away that I could emboss the semi-circle with my snowflake folder and use my Charlie stamp from Whiff of Joy. It all came together really quickly! The sentiment and the snowflakes in the circles are embossed to match my DP. I added Stickles to the tops of the snowballs that cheeky Charlie is holding and the snow on the ground!

  • Stamps: Charlie from Whiff of Joy, Sentiment from Verve Stamps
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Encore Blue Metallic with Clear Embossing Powder
  • Paper: Bazzill Cardstock, SU! Whisper White, Sandylion DP
  • Coloring: Copic Markers
  • Embellies, May Arts Ribbon, Stickles
  • Tools:SU! Round Tab Punch, Cuttlebug, Snowflakes Embossing Folder, Nestabilies, CM Cutting System.

Under The Sea ~ Cute Card Thursday #25

This week's Cute Card Thursday Challenge is "in the water". I just received my stamps from High Hopes. Their new collection is just gorgeous. I knew that I could use a few of them and create an underwater scene that would fit perfectly with this challenge. I wanted to use my Copic markers to make the scene as vivid as possible. I remember the first time I snorkeled. I was astonished by the pure and vivid colors. In total, I used 3 stamps. The mermaid, the turtle and the coral background. I love the background because there are so many incredible details and it is just all there for you in one stamp! I use some stickles on the mermaid and turtle and held myself back from adding them on everything! Both characters are cut out and popped on with some foam dimensionals to give some depth. It is hard to tell with these pics but the turtle's flipper and the mermaid's tail are bent upwards slightly. I just love the effect!

  • Stamps: High Hopes
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Paper: SU! Wild Wasbi & Blue Bayou
  • Coloring: Copic Markers

Sketch Saturday & A Spoonful of Sugar

Yesterday evening, I stumbled onto another amazing weekly challenge called "Sketch Saturday". They are having a Design Team call and I thought I'd have a go. There is a lovely sketch posted and you need to make two cards. You can see the details here. Well, I needed to make two cards pretty fast. Luckily today was beautiful and sunny and the children played happily outside all day. I watched them out of the window as I made these cards. I decided I could use the first card to enter into the Spoonful of Sugar Challenge as well. This week you need to use 3 different ribbons. I have used brown & aqua ribbons and there is a wide sheer black ribbon running across the card with the thinner brown ribbon on top.

  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Paper: PaperTrey Aqua Mist, K&Co
  • Coloring: Copic markers

Second Card: Joy to the World

Last Days Of Summer ~ PaperTake Challenge

Well, the Summer is sadly drawing to a close. In exactly 1 week my two eldest will be off to school. I always get a little sad because I will miss having them here. We are trying to cram as much as we can into this last week. I wanted to do another Summer card so I chose this lovely Magnolia background and sweet girl and colored them up with distress inks. The challenge was "A Stitch in Time" which means you need to have some form of stitching on your card. So I finally was given the incentive to haul out my sewing machine. It usually makes an appearance to make Hallowe'en costumes and Christmas decorations but that is usually it! I wasn't sure how it would go but it was pretty easy!

  • Stamps: Magnolia
  • Inks: Stazon Black
  • Paper: SU! River Rock, Memory Box DP
  • Coloring: Distress Inks
  • Embellies: Butterfly from Dollar store, Sewing Machine Stitching

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your last few days of summer!

Scholar ~ Friday Sketchers Challenge # 16

Well, what a week-end we had! 10 Soccer matches in 3 days! Our two older boys (7 & 10) both made the soccer finals. Since my husband is the coach of both teams (and director of one of the divisions) we had to be at the matches early to set things up. We had time conflicts and I spent the whole week-end driving from field to field and back again! I think I am more tired than the boys. The teams played so hard and with so much heart! In the end we came away with 4 place and the bronze but to the teams, it was like they had gotten the gold! Needless to say, I did not do any stamping and I have a mountain of laundry that I am slugging through! I did get this card done today for the Friday Sketchers. I kept it very simple because I am going to give it to my eldest on his first day of school. He is going into Grade 5! My middle son will start Grade 2. How time flies! I did switch the sentiment with the image and I hope that is alright. I just like the way it looked this way!

Sometime during this week-end I passed 5000 hits! I am so excited! I thought it would take me forever to get here! I am planning to do a Blog Candy and once I get it all together, I will announce it!
  • Stamps: Magnolia School Collection, Sentiment Cornish Heritage
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Paper: Basic Grey Archaic
  • Coloring: Copic Markers
  • Tools: Nestabilities

Tilda In Woods ~ Tilda & Co Challenge

I am happy I was able to get this card done! We are in the midst of soccer finals for two of our boys and it is a little hectic. Games every night of the week and 4 games on Saturday and 4 on Sunday if we make it through! My dear patient husband coaches both teams! We try to always go "en famille" to cheer each little guy on!
The challenge this week over at Tilda & Co was "cold as ice". I knew that I'd use this paper because it already has the frosted look. I was given this stamped image by Tanja and it was the inspiration for the card. I'm not sure what this little Tilda's name is but to me she looks like she is walking in the woods. I wanted to use her with this beautiful quote of Robert Frost's. The first time I ever heard it, I was in high school and it left a big impression on me. When I saw it came as a stamp, I just knew this was one I had to have. It is part of a set by Cornish Heritage called Motivational Centers. I stamped the sentiment with encore ink and then heat embossed it with pearl powder. I wanted to get the same feel as the DP. I cut it out with my long oval nesties. Then I cut out the same shape of oval on the card front but using a smaller oval. I then cut out a scallopped shape to frame it. Tilda is colored with Copic markers and I added stickles to the fringe on her hood and her wings. For the lantern, I added Glossy Accents to the glass to give it a smooth reflective finish. I think you can see it better in the close-up shot! I didn't add too much else to the card. Tilda's woods are quiet! Hope you like. Thanks for stopping by!

Lavender Tilda - A Spoonful of Sugar Challenge

There is an absolutely great sketch for A Spoonful of Sugar Challenge this week. As well, you can now use any stamp image that you desire! As you know, I just received my new Magnolias so I was able to use one of them. I actually just made a card with this Tilda but I had colored this one in at the same time. I am pretty busy getting my children's school supplies all organized and labelled so I hope you don't mind that I use this twice in the same week! Again, I went to my scrap drawer and pulled out all the paper from there. It is all from Papertrey and I just love how they all go together so well.

  • Paper: PaperTrey Lavender Moon, Plum, DP

Traveler Tilda

I am using another of the new Magnolia stamps. This time it is Traveler Tilda. I have used a sketch that I found on Trina's blog. I will enter it for a chance to win her amazing blog candy. It is a really great sketch and I had so much fun creating the card! I tried a new technique (for me) and paper pieced the luggage. I used the same DP as my background for the card. I stamped it twice. Once on the DP and then a second time on some white Wasau. I colored the second with my copics and then cut all the tiney pieces out and glued them onto the DP one. I am happy with how it turned out. I think I'll use the technique again!

  • Stamps: Magnolia Travel Collection, SU! Carte Postale (sentiment)
  • Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Palette Lavender Moon
  • Paper: PaperTrey Laveder Moon, DP Karen Neuburger
  • Coloring: Copic Markers
  • Embellies: SU! Gemstone Brad

School Tilda ~ PaperTake Challenge

I had another little parcel in my mail-box yesterday! My new Magnolias had arrived. I have to say, these are really beautiful. I wish I could get the whole collection! Needless to say, I found some time to play with them! I chose this Tilda to start because she is just so sweet! I followed the fabulous PaperTake Challenge sketch this week. I actually used a whole bunch of scraps from my drawer! It is getting full so I'm going to have to try to use them up! I have a new stamping ink. It is Memento Tuxedo Black. You can use it with Copic markers and you don't have to heat set it! Yippee! It captures all the fine details very well. I'm really happy with it. I didn't add a sentiment because I didn't want to cover up any of the flowers on my DP!

  • Stamps: Magnolia School Collection
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Paper: SU! Afternoon Tea, Misc cardstock, ATS
  • Coloring: Copic Markers
  • Embellies: Black Ribbon from Flourishes

My First Whiff of Joy ~ Friday Sketchers Challenge

I received my order from Katharina's Whiff Of Joy line and couldn't wait to ink the stamps up! I am partial to angels so I had to pick this one to work with first. Isn't she gorgeous? I love that her eyes are so big! Now, my Stazon pad is in serious need of re-inking and I have ordered some but haven't received it yet. The image isn't as darkly stamped as I would have liked, especially the eyes, so I colored them with a blue wash of distress ink and I kinda like that effect! I used the sketch from this week's Friday Sketchers and used this gorgeous paper that is already embossed and covered in glitter and it is in my favorite color! The little embellishments are Swarovski Crystals from my jewlery-making stash and the glittery thread is left over from a cross-stitch project! So I was really making do with what I already had!

  • Stamps: Whiff of Joy Charlotte & Charlie by Alison Acton, Sentiment: PaperTrey
  • Ink: Stazon Jet Black, SU! Blue Bayou for sentiment
  • Paper: SU! Blue Bayou, CM Metallic Silver, DP Best Creations Inc., Vellum for Sentiment
  • Coloring: Distress Inks
  • Embellies: Thread DMC, Handmade Swarovski crystal pendants

Enjoy the rest of your week-end and thank-you for stopping by and visiting!

Secret Message - A Spoonful of Sugar Challenge

Good Morning! I am so happy with the way this card turned out! The challenge over at A Spoonful of Sugar was to make a card that has a hidden "secret message". I had made a card like this based on a tutorial on Claudia Rosa's blog. You can see my other post here. I knew that I'd like to use it again. By now, you are probably guessing that I am very partial to this aqua shade and this Elizabeth Bell stamp from Sugar Nellies. I kept using them over and over! Sorry, hope I'm not becoming boring! When you pull the tab, up comes the message!

Claudia's Sketch & Cute Card Thursday

Claudia has posted a fabulous sketch on her blog and had invited everyone to follow it to create a card. You can see all the details on her blog: Pretty Pressings. I chose one of my favorite Magnolia stamps and my favorite color combo. This is a great sketch and it challenged me to add more layers than I usually do. I colored Tilda with Distress Inks and the background behind her I did with Twinkling H20s. This gives it a soft shimmer. The button didn't quite match my papers so I just stippled on some Blue Bayou ink to make it match a little better. The little charm hanging from the button is a dragonfly. I am also going to enter this in the Cute Card Thursday Challenge which is to use "soft furnishings" on your card. Yes, I too was a little confused but if you read their instructions it becomes clearer! I am considering the ribbon and the button as my "soft furnishings" So again, thanks for stopping by and thanks also to you lovely ladies who always leave such kind comments - you really do make my day!

  • Stamps: Magnolia, SU! Fresh Cuts
  • Ink: Stazon, SU! Blue Bayou
  • Paper: SU! Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, Afternoon Tea, Basic Grey Two Scoops
  • Coloring: Distress Inks, Twinking H20s
  • Embellies: SU! SOft Sky ribbon, HodgePodge Hardware, Dollar Store Dragonfly

Christmas! ~ Tilda & Co Challenge

I can't believe it, but yes, I have made a Christmas card and it is only August. The Tilda & Co challenge this week was to make a Chistmas card. I actually had two stamps two stamps that I could have used! I had to scrounge around for some paper that was Christmas-like. I went into my scrapbooking scraps and was lucky to find something! I kept it simple - mainly because don't have anything much other than Spring-Summer stuff! The sentiment is from SU! and I stamped it and heat embossed it to add a little bling! I also added Stickles to her muff and hat as well as the snowflakes. I think you can see that a bit better on this close-up. So, there you have it: my first Christmas card!

  • Stamps: Magnolia - Tilda in Kicksled, SU! So Many Scallops
  • Ink: Stazon
  • Paper: Miscellaneous Scraps
  • Coloring: Distress Inks
  • Embellies: May Arts Ribbon, K&Co Pearls
