Copic Airbrushing & Masking Images

Happy Tuesday! Today I have a card to show you and a couple of videos as well. As you probably know if you visit my blog regularly, I really love to create scenes using multiple images that I mask onto the same piece of cardstock. When I received these gorgeous Whiff of Joy images, I knew right away that they would work really well together. I went with a bright and airy color scheme and tried not to overdo it with embellies! I am going to enter it in this week’s Cute Card Thursday Challenge as the theme is “whatever”! LOL!

I filmed this video as I was making the card. I hope it will answer all your questions. On a special note, as I said in yesterday’s post, I was inundated with questions regarding the masking tape that I use. It is called Eclipse tape. I have bought it from 7 kids college fund as well as Ellen Hutson. Unfortunately, I have just found out that the company who makes this tape is searching for a new manufacturer. These stores and others that I googled are all out of stock at the moment. I am sorry. I hate to steer you towards something that ultimately is not available. As soon as I hear any news I will let you know :) If you know of any alternatives, please let me know and I can pass on the information!

I filmed another video while making this card and in this one I show you how I airbrush. First I would like to give you a few tips :)

When I first started airbrushing, I used the starter kit that came with the Air Grip, Air Adaptor, Air Hose, Air Can 80, and Air Can Holder. I fell in love with the look and the ease of airbrushing but I very quickly ran out of air from the can! I purchased more and they quickly emptied too! Okay, it was not cool to be spending money on AIR! I took the plunge and invested in a compressor. Although pricey, I do not regret my decision.

So now I use the Sparmax AC –101 Windstorm Air Compressor. The Air Grip and the Air Adaptor work perfectly with it and now…………AIR is free! I purchased both the kit and ultimately the compressor through Ellen Hutson.

A few tips when you airbrush:

  • The air grip is made to work with Sketch markers although I hear that you can rig it to work with the Ciaos. I am not sure how.
  • Insert the chisel edge into the grip so that the longer point is up at the top.
  • The ink will spray a little ahead of where you point, so always start on a piece of scrap paper and move your nozzle over to your project. This way you will have an idea of where it is spraying.
  • Maintain a constant pressure on the air grip. If you don’t you will get spatters and blobs as you airbrush…this can be a great look but sometimes not the look you were aiming for.
  • I set my pressure gauge on the compresser between 40-50 PSI. This gives me the perfect spray.

Here is my video:

Here is my card recipe:

  • Stamps: Whiff of Jo: Sailor Willow, Sitting Sailor Oakley, Beach Chair
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Paper: SU! Whisper White, Baja Breeze, DP Websters Pages
  • Coloring: Copic Markers
  • Tools: SU! Punches, Cuttlebug die for the corners

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this helps. I have been promising these tutorials for a while now!  If you have any questions just let me know! I will do my best to answer you!

I make masks by stamping the image onto cheep printer paper, cut out and spray the back with Crafters Companions Stick and Spray then I store the masks on a laminated sheet to use again and again :)
